About Bijli Mahadev Temple

History of Bijli Mahadev Temple

According to legend, a powerful demon once threatened the Kullu Valley. To protect the people, Lord Shiva defeated the demon and transformed himself into the sacred Shiva Lingam worshipped at the temple today.
Local tradition also holds that lightning periodically strikes the temple’s Shiva Lingam. The impact is said to break the Lingam into pieces, after which the temple priests carefully restore it using butter and sacred rituals.
